The Cinque Terre Territory, that was almost isolated till the end of 1800, developed during the centuries a very wide grid of paths and tracks, most of which still in use. The C.A.I. (Alpine Club of Italy) has published a map of 36 tracks.

The Blue Path, marked by CAI as no.2, is the most important of the Cinque Terre.

An another interesting track is the one marked by CAI as no.1 (white and red sign): it goes from Portovenere to Levanto on the ridge of the mountains, at an altitude of almost 800 mt. o.s., around the gulf of Cinque Terre. This track is about 40 km. long and can be considered the prehistoric route of the Cinque Terre. In fact it connected the places where the majority of the archeological founds has been discovered.

As any excursion, also those in the Cinque Terre need some precautions:

  • be aware of all the difficulties that the different tracks may present; on this subject the C.A.I. Guide could be useful;
  • avoid hot hours during summer and, in case, wear a sun hat;
  • avoid to walk on tracks at night;
  • use sport clothes and trekking shoes;
  • have a portable phone and a list of emergency numbers with you;
  • take a small supply of water with you.
