Is a village built in a commanding and panoramic position, on top of a sheer cliff (about 100 mt. high).

In the past Corniglia was sorrounded by a fortification whose only a few remains are left.
According to historical information the village "Cornelia" was founded by Roman veterans, who settled here after fighting with Ligurian people in 177 b.C. and after the partition of the "Agro Lunensis".
Feud of the Carpena family, then of the Fieschi, it was finally annexed to the Republic of Genoa in 1276.
